Jérôme Le Maire

Born in Liege in 1969, Jerôme le Maire began studying journalism and communication at the Free University of Brussels and then started to study for a degree in film-making at the 'Institut des Arts de Diffusion'.

In 1994, he directed a short film, Meilleurs Vœux, with Vincent Lannoo. In 1995, he directed Salutations distinguées, a short film selected in many festivals, among which those of Angers, Berlin and Namur. Then for six years, as he keept writing, he directed several corporate films and had a career as assistant to the director for many feature and short films of all types.

In 2001, he directed 8 films for the docu-soap Le Belge été (8X26') broadcasted on CANAL+.
In 2002, Jerôme le Maire directed Volter ne m’intéresse pas, a documentary coproduced by the Belgian TV channel RTBF. Then the same year, he directed another one, Un jour, une vie, portrait of an exceptional prisoner in a concentration camp of WW2.

In 2004, he went to live in an isolated palmgrove in the south of Morroco with his wife and kids. There, he directed the documentary- feature film Où est l’amour dans la palmeraie ?, selected in many festivals : 'Visions du Réel' (Nyon), RIDM (Montreal), Parnü Film Festival (Estonia), 'Festival des quatre écrans' (Paris),… and nominated for the European Academy Awards ARTE. In 2011, he directed Le Grand'Tour, a fiction feature film, selected for the International Festival of Rotterdam, the 'Festival de Cannes' in the category ACID, and the 'Festival International du Film Francophone de Namur'.
